Currently, there is a lack of sufficient data for stormwater professionals, limiting their ability to fully evaluate and utilize the capabilities of modern sweeping technologies.

The advantages of thorough testing are clear. Research has already shown that street sweeping can be up to seven times more cost-efficient than methods like catch basin cleaning in removing pollutants such as nitrogen and phosphorus. Standardized testing would validate these findings, offering concrete evidence that stormwater managers can use to optimize their resource distribution.

Additionally, data-driven insights are essential for obtaining regulatory credits under MS4 permits. If street sweepers can consistently demonstrate effective pollutant removal, regulators will be able to establish more precise and reliable credit systems, encouraging municipalities to invest more in enhanced sweeping programs.

Why should sweeper manufacturers support this initiative? Because standardized testing ensures a fair comparison, allowing superior technologies to stand out.
