New Collaboration Between Volvo CE and Unicontrol Brings 3D Machine Control Integration
Volvo CE has teamed up with Unicontrol to incorporate adaptable 3D machine control into its excavators, providing operators with a streamlined and more effective solution to enhance precision and efficiency on the jobsite.
Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) has formed a partnership with the Danish technology firm Unicontrol to simplify and enhance the use of 3D machine control for excavator operators. Through this collaboration, Volvo will integrate Unicontrol’s adaptable 3D control system directly into its excavators, aiming to streamline jobsite operations and provide contractors with more flexible digital solutions.
Streamlined 3D Control Integration
One of the key advantages of this partnership is the simplified setup process for operators. Instead of dealing with additional hardware or complicated user interfaces, Unicontrol3D will operate directly on Volvo’s Co-Pilot tablet, which is already integrated into the excavator’s cabin. This eliminates the need for extra monitors or complex retrofits—offering operators an intuitive and consolidated interface.
When Volvo’s Dig Assist system is selected with the Co-Pilot, all necessary hardware and software come pre-installed. Activating the Unicontrol3D system is the final step to get it up and running.
“We are focused on making cutting-edge technology more accessible and user-friendly,” said Kurt Deleu, Head of Excavator Product Management at Volvo CE. “This collaboration brings flexible 3D control to our customers with minimal complexity.”
Flexible, Adaptable Technology
Unicontrol has emerged as a cost-effective and versatile alternative to traditional machine control solutions. Their system is compatible with a wide range of excavators, supports various data formats, and can be easily integrated into different workflows—features that are especially valuable for contractors managing mixed fleets.
Rather than being confined to a single technology platform, users can implement Unicontrol3D across multiple machines and job types, aligning with Volvo’s vision for creating adaptable and future-ready solutions.
“The demand for flexible, user-friendly 3D control technology is at an all-time high,” said Niels Bjerregaard, CEO of Unicontrol. “This collaboration sets a new benchmark for efficiency, adaptability, and ease of use.”
What’s Next?
The integrated Unicontrol3D system will be initially available in select European markets later this year, with plans for global expansion in the future. While further rollout details are still being finalized, this partnership reflects a growing trend of collaboration between original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and tech companies to develop smarter, more user-centric machines.
For contractors looking to improve precision, reduce rework, and modernize operations without adding complexity, this new integration could be a significant step forward.
